That sugar struggle sounds familiar, Alexandra, in all its details. It is my worse addiction!

I like to add that is also important to cut out processed foods. In the US everything from crab sticks to salty crackers and canned beetroots is laced with sugar, high fructose corn syrup, etc. At my age 66 my cholesterol and triglycerides were super high and cutting out sugar ( or at least drastically reducing it) and processed foods has saved me from my doctor insisting that I take statins medication . I tried to get the lab results down by cutting out alcohol, red meat, coffee etc. but only cutting out sugar and processed foods has made a real difference. It is sad how I had to find out for myself with no doctor telling or helping me. The only help I had were shamans in Peru and Colombia who helped me to learn to feel my body again.

Hi Helene, thank you so much for your note! Yes 100% agreed, cutting out processed foods is also key. I try to think about it as only eating "food with brakes." That is, if I can't stop eating something, it means that it's been too processed and thus has become a hyper-palatable frankenfood that's not a true food any longer. How terrible that you had to discover this for yourself instead of being given advice... how many people have never realized what the culprit is and were given no nudge in the proper direction to take care of their health?

So grateful that you were able to learn to feel your body again. Yes, I suppose disconnection between ourselves and our bodies is a key root to many of these things. It is nice now that I am able to sense what my body wants. That hasn't always been the case—it was hard to hear beneath the roar of craving for sugar and processed foods.

Wishing you great health.
